SKI AND WOOD CRAFTS

ARTIST STATEMENT

Rooted in skiing’s Nordic origins, my practice blends traditional techniques with contemporary needs, resulting in nordic skis and unique pieces that balance performance, sustainability, and aesthetic integrity.

In addition to custom skis, I create smaller functional works. Many of these pieces extend the life of reclaimed or retired skis, transforming tools shaped by movement and snow into everyday objects for the home. Chelsea’s Voie Verte inspired ski charcuterie boards, which combine ski elements with repurposed rail-spike handles.

Each pair of skis is meticulously handcrafted using ten to twenty laminations per ski tailored to the skier’s needs and intended terrain. Unique wood laminations on the ski topsheet allow for creative expression, making every pair distinct.

Visitors are invited into my workshop to experience works in progress, finished skis, and functional craft pieces, while learning about the tools, materials, and techniques involved in fabrication. Experimentation with reinforcing materials and evolving ski construction methods remains an ongoing part of my practice. My goal is to share not only finished objects, but also the joy of making—inviting visitors to engage with the craft, ask questions, and connect with functional art rooted in movement, landscape, and tradition.
