​ARTIST STATEMENT

I make pots for daily rituals—objects meant to be held, used, and lived with. Pottery is a quiet kind of magic, a bridge between maker and user. A well-made vessel carries presence. It can turn an ordinary cup of tea into a moment of pause, a small celebration of being here.
 

Nature is the heart of my work. I live in the Gatineau Hills, beside the river, held by the forest. At night, the sky opens to the moon and stars; by day, the river moves steadily past, never the same twice. On my walks, the trees sing with the wind, reminding me—again and again—to breathe.I am a gardener as well as a potter, and the flowers that surround my home are a continual source of joy and inspiration. Nature holds endless moods, textures, and colours. I seek to echo this quiet abundance on the surface of each piece I make.

Every pot is made by my hands, from beginning to end. I throw on the wheel, then return to each form through the meditative act of trimming, refining its voice and balance. Slips and underglazes create a skin for carving, where line and contrast emerge through sgraffito. After the first firing, I wax the carved surfaces to preserve their soft, matte tones, allowing them to breathe beside glazed areas. A clear glaze flows over the carved lines, deepening colour and bringing the surface to life.
 

My work is fired in an electric kiln to cone 6. Opening the kiln is always an act of faith—fingers and toes crossed—a moment of wonder and surprise.
 

All glazes are food safe. Each piece is dishwasher and microwave safe, made for daily use, yet deserving of care. Like all things made by hand, a strong impact may leave its mark.
