ARTIST STATEMENT
All my life I have explored different mediums of art as I grew up in the beautiful region of Lac Saint-Jean Québec. I have always been fascinated with nature and it’s landscapes. During my youth, I took drawing and painting lessons which gave me the opportunity to discover and enjoy art in general.
Twenty years ago, I discovered the medium of mosaic art by accident. I started by restoring an old dining room table top that I covered with broken ceramic tiles. It was the beginning of my passion for mosaic art.
I am self taught and have experimented continuously with different techniques before finding one where I can develop my own style. I joined a group of mosaic artists from France called Passion-Mosaïque and have participated in several seminars over the years. My interest and focus is to create landscapes with contrasting light and shadows using vivid colours.
I start from scratch, painting every bisque porcelain in various colours that are fired in a kiln. Each tile is then broken piece by piece and placed to form an image. Once the pieces are glued in place, I fill in the gaps by using different colours of grout in order to enhance the contrasts and bring it to life like a painting.
For me my mosaic pieces are a combination of drawing, painting and sculpture which require a lot of patience and passion as it can take several weeks and months to complete a single piece. However, the end result is always gratifying and I cannot wait to create the next piece with the inspiration that nature offers me in my beautiful country surroundings
