Wakiso
Community WASH Project (Water, Sanitation & Hygiene
Education for the Rural Poor).
This project includes the construction of 26 wells in the
Wakiso district of Uganda, impacting the lives of 1,250
villagers. This is severely impoverished part of the country
where death rates among children are more that 17 times
greater than in Canada and life expectancy averages only
50 years. Access to clean water will provide children a
better chance to survive their early years when they are
most vulnerable to water-borne diseases. Girls will also
be more likely to attend school & women will have more
time to devote to childcare, crops & small businesses
instead of walking several kilometers each day to collect
water from contaminated sources.
Our target is to raise $5,520. The Canadian International
Development Agency will match these funds 3:1 bringing the
total to $22,080., the amount needed to dig 4 of the 26
wells!
